Reba Chowdhury, the trailblazer behind the Ashoknagar Antaheen Kalakhetra, has long been a source of inspiration for the community. Since its inception, there has been a fervent desire to pay homage to her indelible legacy. In 2019, this noble aspiration materialized into a heartfelt tradition known as the ‘Reba Chowdhury Smarok Sommanona o Baktrita.’ This tribute is a profound acknowledgment of her enduring impact and is bestowed annually on the 16th of October, commemorating her departure from this world.
The journey of this tribute commenced in 2019 and has since grown in significance and reach. By 2021, it had evolved to include a broad spectrum of participants, extending its recognition beyond the boundaries of Ashokenagar. It was not limited solely to individuals, but it extended its embrace to encompass theater groups, as well as social and cultural foundations within Ashokenagar.
A remarkable highlight of the 2021 event was the splendid performance of Joy Goswami’s poetic masterpiece, ‘Ghasfuler Kobi.’ This captivating performance was brought to life through the creative talents of Sudip Sinha, hailing from the Barasat Rameshpally Theatre Zone. Through this artistic rendition, the legacy of Reba Chowdhury was further enriched, demonstrating how her influence continues to shape and inspire the vibrant cultural landscape of Ashokenagar.
